Frequently Asked Questions
Can I send messages without visiting the website?

Yes, there are over 30 complimentary software solutions that are available to download. Click here for more information ...

Do you use the mobile numbers that I send messages to for marketing purposes?

Absolutely not, we are ISO 27001 certified and security and confidentiality are at the forefront of the service we provide to our customers. We treat your recipient phones as your data. We comply fully with the Data Protection Act, and seek to protect your data.

Can I send messages to more than one number at a time?

Yes, we offer bulk sms sending. You can send to up to 1000 messages at a time on any of our solutions (2sms website, 2sms software solutions)

How many characters do I get in the message?

You can now send long messages up to 18,000 characters. When you send a long message, the first message can be up to 160 characters long. However when you go over that the first few characters of the subsequent messages are replaced with a binary UDH header, meaning that the message length decreases to 145 characters for each subsequent message sent.

Can people reply to my message?

Yes. In order for us to receive 2-way messages on your behalf you would need to be provided with a unique long number, which looks the same as a mobile phone number and this is dedicated to you. Once we have received the data on your behalf we would then process it for you in whichever format you require. This can be forwarded to either another mobile phone, or an outbound email to alert to SMS receipt, or an XML post to remote domain to alert to SMS receipt or a WAP session to view traffic stats and these are all charged at 1 message credit each.

Do you do reverse billing?

No - we find that it doesn't work. We offer a pre-pay service where customers can buy services online or over the phone.

What do the status messages mean in the reports?

Success - This status indicates that the message was received by the network provider or delivered to the destination phone number.

WithNetwork - This status indicates that submission into our mobile network provider was successful, and your message is currently in the state of attempting to be delivered to the destination network.

Pending - This status indicates that your message submission has been accepted by the aggregator, and is in a queue for sending to the network.

Scheduled - This status indicates that your message submission has been accepted, and is currently scheduled to be sent to the network at a later time or date

Failed - This status indicates that 2sms has sent the message to the aggregator and they have sent it to the carrier, but the carrier rejected it.

FailedStop - This status indicates that the designated recipient has been opted-out either by the subscriber or the carrier following a previous send attempt by 2sms. 2sms is not able to send it to the recipient at this time. (2sms can opt it back in, but only if the subscriber opted-out, not if the carrier had previously rejected the number as being invalid or barred)

FailedSystemError - This status indicates that 2sms has sent the message to the aggregator and they rejected it.

FailedNoResponse - This status indicates that the network(s) have attempted to forward the message onto the recipient(s) for the maximum period for message validity of 72 hours. Because the phone was not able to receive that message for the entire period, it has been returned as failed.

FailedCancelled - This status indicates 2sms has cancelled the message either at the sender’s request or because the message was stuck in the system or malformed at which point it has been quarantined.

What is PAAR?

PAAR is a four-step process for Emergency Planning. It consists of the following elements:

Prepare

  • 2sms helps by setting up your accounts and sub accounts
  • 2sms helps setup and organize your lists to reflect certain geographical area, departments, and organizational charts
  • 2sms will train your human resource departments as well as management

Alert

  • Send alert messages concerning the emergency to employees from your computer, website and cell phone
  • Let employees know where to meet or contingency plans
  • See who got your message and when
  • Have them reply back as to status, location or acknowledgement of message

Assist

  • Determine who has not responded to your alert
  • Notify first responders to who is missing and last known location (e.g. 5th floor of Building II)
  • Help families know where their love ones are

Recover

  • Get back to normal faster
  • Direct your emergency resources more effectively
  • Inform key personnel of changes in routing your business
  • Communicate an "all clear" message to your employees to resume business as usual
What are opt-out messages?

In the United States we are required to send an opt-out message the first occasion of the sending of the message to the unique cell phone number.

We are not required to send an opt out message to the second and subsequent message to each unique cell phone. We will charge the customer for the cost of this carrier required opt out message. Standard 2sms messaging credit rates apply. This is true for all US and Canadian handsets.

The standard format of this message will be as follows:

"2sms enterprise alerts. Other charges apply. Prices & T&Cs at www.2sms.com. Support: 877 276 7266. support@2sms.com. Send STOP to opt out."
